Nicolas Cary, co-founder of Blockchain, the world´s leading Bitcoin software company, speaks to LFF about the benefits of operating out of Luxembourg, the future of virtual currency, and the innovation challenge facing retail banks.

" Blockchain is a Luxembourg business" explains Cary. "We are based in Luxembourg because of the thoughtful regulatory environment, the incredible access to some of the fastest and best technology in the world, and the leadership that has been here for decades in finance so we can draw on that to build our business. "

"Luxembourg was the historic home of Skype, which was used by billions of people around the world to help them stay in touch with their friends and family. They were able to grow here in Luxembourg because of their regulatory environment, incredible access to some of the fastest servers and data forms in the world, and we see a lot of comparisons to what we are doing here too. Skype was about peer-to- peer telephony and Bitcoin is about peer- to-peer transactions. "

Blockchain builds innovative software that, according to the company, makes using Bitcoin safe, easy, and secure for consumers and enterprises in over 120 countries. The company employs 30 staff and have raised over $30M in capital from top tier investors including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Wicklow Capital, and Sir Richard Branson.
